Finding a contact
Who to write to, and how confident we are in each address.
How to use it
- Open a company
- Press Research
- Read the status beside each address
- Hover a status to see how that address was found
A guessed pattern is a guess. The label tells you which is which, so you know before you send.
What a workup looks for
Requesting a profile spends one research credit and looks for the people who would own a buying decision, their titles, and an address for each. It reads pages that are already public; it does not buy a contact database.
Verified against guessed
Every address carries how it was found. Review the evidence and confidence label before using it. One built from the company's pattern, such as first.last@domain, is a guess, not a verified address or a delivery guarantee.
When nothing is found
A workup that finds no usable contact refunds its credit automatically. An empty result is a real answer, and you are not charged for it.
The five statuses
smtp_ok means the mailbox itself answered. mx_found means the domain accepts mail and the address follows their pattern. format means it was built from their naming pattern and not confirmed. invalid means it can't be used, and none means no address was found. Even smtp_ok doesn't guarantee delivery.
Where the results show up
Contacts appear in the company's profile window under Who to contact, and as cards on On Radar, where each one can get a status, an owner and a follow-up date. When nothing usable turns up, the profile says the credit was refunded and links to a search for people at that company in your own Apollo account.
Point the search at the right person
What do you sell? and Roles you want to reach, under Settings › Radar AI, decide who Research looks for. A creative agency wants the brand manager; a compliance tool wants the CISO. See Ideal customer profile.
How long contacts are kept
A contact found by Research that's still marked New after 12 months is deleted. Contacts you added yourself stay. If someone asks not to be contacted, they're removed and can't be added again, by Research or by hand.
Common questions
Does Research find verified emails?
Not reliably. Contact discovery often finds no usable person. When it does find an address, the status tells you how it was found, and a pattern guess is only a guess.
Do I pay when nothing is found?
No. The credit is refunded automatically. See Research company profiles and credits.
Can I add a contact I already know?
Yes. Use + Add lead on On Radar. Only the company is required.
Where does the information come from?
Public pages: the company's own website, including its team, about and contact pages, plus public search results. It doesn't buy a contact database.
